Why We Love Our House

We bought this house in April of 2005. It was 2300 square feet. Through the years we have expanded, renovated, and modified the house to what it is today, over 5000 square feet. We love this house and have meticulously maintained it.

We love living in this neighborhood. We are in a secure, gated, privada which allows privacy yet the presence of caring neighbors.

There is everything we need in a short distance away: grocery store, pet store, organic market, fruit and vegetable stands, gas station, and increasingly more and more restaurants minutes away. The center of town is a 22- minute walk away. Being at this distance, our house and garden are very quiet. The house is elevator-ready.

The house is very large yet provides many intimate spaces for family, and easy entertaining for over 40 people either in the landscaped garden, on the second level or on the rooftop.
The large foyer is formal yet welcoming. An art gallery extends directly through the house to the large garden with a mosaic fountain. The garden is a hummingbird and butterfly haven. The large floral iron fence assures privacy for all in the first-floor bedrooms, and a tranquil place to enjoy the sun while listening to the gentle drops of the fountain.

The large master bedroom is on the first floor. It not only has a fireplace, but a recently added split air-conditioner/heater to make the space comfortable throughout the year.
There is a supplemental desk for correspondence.

The master bath, with its two sinks, large glass shower, sunken tub, enjoys a spa-like atmosphere. The totally private garden extending beyond the bathroom is a perfect haven for relaxing.

Adjoining the bedroom through a double set of doors is an office/art studio which enjoys natural light providing a serious workspace for writing, and a lovely studio for art.
The custom-designed work table and large desk affords space for art materials, with a sink for washing paint brushes.

On the second level, the main kitchen features a double sink, recently purchased double combination gas and electric stove, a utility refrigerator, granite countertops, and an inviting view of the Parroquia.

The complementary adjoining butler pantry, with its massive storage, a deep farm sink, a Bosch dishwasher, large refrigerator-freezer is perfect for out-of-sight food preparation for parties.
It affords a sunny space for laundry.

A large terrace, again with a view of the Parroquia, and the San Antonio Church extends beyond the dining area. There is an outdoor table that seats 14 people, as well as comfortable couches for cocktails and entertaining.

The large Santa Fe-style fireplace in the living room provides atmosphere and warmth. The recent addition of a split air-conditioner/heater in the adjoining family room assures that the family space is warm and cozy even on chilly days, and pleasantly cool on warm sunny days.
The windows have UV film to reduce the glare and heat of the sun in the summer.

The lower level is an added bonus. There are two large bedrooms, a bathroom with mosaic tile shower, a supplemental office/gym area, a mechanical room, and a coveted large storage room with custom shelving and a large freezer.

This lower level space serves as a private casita for guests, or potentially for live-in help.
There is a ventilation system that is run for a few hours in the summer to recycle air throughout the lower level.

The pièce de résistance is the top floor! It offers an unobstructed view of the beautiful city of San Miguel through the custom windows with screens. The firepit is a perfect addition to the delight of the room.

Extending beyond the enclosed glass area is an open-air space perfect for enjoying the magnificent sunsets over the mountains.

A large guest bathroom adjoins this rooftop area with granite counters and wooden cabinets.

A granite bar with teak cabinets allows for outdoor entertaining.

Above this area is a state-of-the-art solar energy system. The glass panels are UV protected providing shelter in all weather conditions. This system greatly reduces electric bills.

A UV glass wall separates this rooftop space form the adjoining neighbor’s house.

In addition to the house, under a separate title, is a 260 square meter lot for sale. It is landscaped with a stunning stone retaining wall. This lot is located in Villas Acuarela, a guard-gated private community with lovely houses and nice neighbors.

We have designed and installed an attractive staircase which leads from our garden to the lower level area, beneath which is a large storage space for garden equipment.

This lot would be an ideal complement to our house as it is large enough for the construction of an adjoining casita or spacious art studio.

Were it not the desire we feel to move closer to our children and grandchildren, we would never leave.
