Description

Casa Riba located an eight minute walk slightly uphill from the Jardin.

This is a newly renovated seventeenth century house on the northwest corner of Antigua (the center of centro) two blocks from the famous Mercado and a short walk from the Jardin. Casa Riba is incredibly comfortable and beautifully decorated with rare eighteenth and nineteenth century American and Japanese antiques. The owner who is a sculptor and fine furniture designer has also built several remarkable furniture and sculptural pieces specifically for this residence. The Views from the roof top sitting area are breathtaking and the amenities will delight.

One enters thru modest traditional mesquite doors to a wonderland of extraordinary furnishings, plants and views. On your left you will pass the dining room with a boveda ceiling with a gas fireplace and eight person bespoke dining table. You'll then pass the a fully equipped kitchen on your left and walk into the intimate garden and pool area with a large Weber BBQ. There are essentially two buildings with a covered walkway. The first contains three bedrooms, dining room, kitchen and laundry. The second comprises the main living area, gym, bar and master bedroom with outdoor sitting area and two person jacuzzi. The covered two story walkway has a beautiful covered sun filled sitting area looking down upon the solar heated swimming pool.

There are four envsuite bedrooms. The master bedroom on the third floor has a luxurious king sized memory foam mattress and an adjacent private sitting area with a solar heated hot tub. The views from this deck are spectacular! And it's a great place for evening drinks.

The second en suite bedroom comes with a gas fireplace and two comfortable double beds. The third and fourth bedrooms are en suite as well and each have double beds.

The main living area has a wet bar, remote gas fireplace, audiophile level stereo system, and a large flat screen TV (including apple tv) It also has a fabulous eight foot 1906 Arts and Crafts pool table. In addition there is a bar with refrigerator and sink as well as an additional full bath. Beneath the living room is a small gym with two rowing machines, free weights and television.

Staff: You will be taken care of by Sonia, the house keeper (she does not speak English). She will do your laundry, make beds, clean and wash from nine to one, monday thru friday. Also, Eulalio who does speak fluent English and manages all the maintenance issues as well as cares for the garden. Eulalio is available most of the week except for a few hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The house is the perfect distance from the Jardin, a fun relatively flat eight minute walk. It is worth noting that you can be too close to the center of town because of the myriad parades, mariachi bands, church bells and traffic noise. Although Casa Riba is not immune to these issues, it is far enough away so that the noise at night is not completely intolerable. You will, however hear roosters, church bells and the occasional fireworks. This residence is not on a major thoroughfare and as such, there are no buses. The traffic is minimal and the air is good.

The famous Mercado, only two short blocks away, is where you can buy fruit, vegetables, meat, flowers and all the souvenirs you could imagine at prices far more reasonable than the upscale shops near the Jardin.

At Casa Riba you can drink from the tap. All the water including showers and the pool is filtered and irradiated. If you want to stay healthy and thoroughly enjoy your stay, this is of utmost importance!

RENTAL RATES:

Monthly: $ 7.000
Weekly: $ 2,250
Daily: $ 350 (4 night minimum)


Please note: This is a personal home and not simply a rental property. The rates will rise slightly for Christmas, Easter and Day of the Dead as the owners will have to arrange separate accommodation or travel plans. The owners do travel extensively and longer term rates can be arranged particularly between Dec 15 and March 15 or so.

Recommended tips for Sonia and Eulalio 200 pesos each (about $23 dollars a week) for their fastidious and uncompromisingly honest service.

Accommodates up to ten persons in four en suite bedrooms with an additional two full baths.
